What the papers ask for

Paper 1 (Writing) is Editing, Situational Writing (30 marks, 250 to 350 words) and Continuous Writing (30 marks, 350 to 500 words).

Paper 2 (Comprehension, 50 marks) opens with a visual text, then works through narrative and non-narrative passages, and includes an 80-word summary.

The guides

The habit that carries across all four

Every one of these tasks rewards the same discipline: name the thing, then say what it does. A technique without its effect, a point without its rewording, a required bullet left uncovered. Those are where the marks actually go, far more often than raw vocabulary.

Preparing a younger student instead? The PSLE English practice covers Paper 2 grammar, cloze and comprehension, plus composition and oral.
