Your child listens to recordings and answers multiple-choice questions. Each recording is played twice. The first seven questions use pictures or diagrams.

- They can work out what a speaker means but does not say.

Listen to recordings and answer multiple-choice questions about them.
How to answer
- Use the reading time. Read each question and its options.
- Decide what to listen for, such as a time, a place or a reason.
- During the first playing, choose the answer you think is right.
- During the second playing, check your answer. Change it if you heard something different.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | What helps |

| Choosing an option just because it has a word from the recording. | Listen for meaning. The right option often uses different words. |
| Missing that a speaker changes their mind. | Listen for words like "actually" and "instead" on the second playing. |
| Losing track when a recording is long. | At home, play a two-minute news clip twice, then answer three questions. |
